The Cogs and Gears of the Cosmos
From the award-winning author and member of the SFWA
Welcome to the Nebula, where the 21st century looks nothing like that on Earth. The Cogs and Gears of the Cosmos are the start of a brand new subgenre: Concurrent Medieval Space GearPunk. This is a niche of science fiction created by Simon Drayton where descendants of medieval civilizations, separated from Earth in the Early Middle Ages, form new societies in space within the same timeline as Modern Earth, using gear-powered technology free of digital tools. In this subgenre, there is no non-human intelligent life. Rather, humanity adapted within its kind in deep space, separated from humanity on Earth for centuries. Storylines in this subgenre take place in modern times, in the 21st century, with no alternate timelines and within the same universe as Earth.
This series follows the deaf teenage protagonist, Godwin the Dirteon. He starts out as a recruit for the legendary ship, the Game Changer, a state-of-the-art 13 million square foot space vessel powered by gear systems and steam from harvested magma. Follow Godwin as he and his fellow crewmates travel through the vast, volatile Nebula and learn what it means to be human in deep space. Great for fans of Steampunk, Space Opera, Social Issues and Disability Fiction, Hopepunk, and more.
